Section Profile: The Columbia Mountains Section

The Columbia Mountains include the Monashee, Selkirk, Purcell and Cariboo mountain ranges. This new section has filled a long-standing gap in the otherwise extensive network of ACC sections across the country. Now one year after its inception, the section is really picking up momentum, with 230 affiliated members, and counting.

Cottage Nuts

“Cottage Nuts” is a slang term for Cabin Fever. Its roots have been traced back to Chamonix France and Jean-Guy Rapatel’s innocent and humourous translation of the term. Technically speaking, Cottage Nuts is the claustrophobic reaction of a person or group shut in for an extended period of time, something many of us now experience as we self-isolate to flatten the Covid-19 curve so we can get back out in the world as soon as safely possible.

Jasper-Hinton Section enjoys first tracks to Jacques Lake Cabin

The Jacques Lake Cabin is open! Here, Marilyn Campbell describes the first trip to the ACC’s newest Jasper hut with members of the Jasper-Hinton Section.

We’ve received a lot of interest in the cabin for its first season as an ACC facility, but we still have space for those keen to explore this historic corner of Jasper, particularly for those you can get away mid-week. Enjoy!

Plus-size mountaineering answers call for body inclusive backcountry camps

For 2020 we’re proud to announce Intro to Mountaineering Body Inclusive, a new program for plus-sized women which came from an idea brought to us by Diandra Oliver. The camp is sold out at the time of this post, however we thought it would be helpful to shed light on why we feel that camps like this are important for the fat-identifying outdoor community and for the ACC.
