Jim Haberl Outhouse Update: A project supported by the ACC Environment Fund

This past summer the ACC Vancouver Section upgraded and moved the outhouse at the Jim Haberl Hut and attached it to the main building to increase safety and help the local alpine environment. Increased outhouse inconvenience in the winter discourages proper waste disposal, and the ACC’s Environment Fund granted funds to help rectify the situation.

Edziza, Bottom to Top: A trip supported by the Jen Higgins Grant

This past spring, Sam French, Melissa Makepeace, Colleen Gentemann and Sarah Sasges set off to Mt. Edziza Provincial Park with plans to ski tour the entire park from bottom to top, crossing over the Spectrum Range and Mt Edziza. The planned traverse is 68 km long with 4,325 metres of elevation gain and 4,190 metres of elevation loss.

Learning from the best: A trip supported by the Karl Nagy Memorial Scholarship

In 2001 the Karl Nagy Memorial Scholarship was established to help aspirant guides and volunteer leaders develop their skills. This past summer Bree Kullman was awarded with the scholarship, seeing her off to Hallam Glacier for the 2018 GMC. There she watched, learned and led with the camp’s guides - navigating through complicated terrain, maintaining efficiency and a genuine rapport with the ropemates.

This past summer the ACC Edmonton Section and Catholic Social Services(CSS) paired up together to introduce eight recently resettled refugees to our big backyard - what better way to do this than by heading up to the Bow Hut? The 24th Section of the ACC: Columbia Mountains

The newest section of the ACC, designated at the Club’s board meeting in late October, is based out of Revelstoke, BC, a mountain town with deep roots in exploration and guiding. The section will represent a hugely historically important mountain area and will fill in the space on the ACC membership map between our Okanagan (BC) and Rocky Mountain (Alberta) sections.

ACC At the 2018 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival

Every year we're proud to support the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival in their efforts to gather the mountain community and promote our culture. We’ve been a partner with the festival since the very beginning in 1976 and helped to fund awards like the Grand Prize (The Phyllis & Don Munday Award) for the Banff Mountain Book Competition, and Best Film in Climbing.
