Hišimy̓awiƛ Update - October 10th

Editor's note: A new hut on Vancouver Island – ACC member Chris Jensen will be keeping us updated with photo galleries on the progress of the building of the ACC’s newest hut that, once complete, will expand the western edge of the ACC’s hut network by more than 150km. Stay tuned for more updates.

Dec, 2019: This post has been updated with the name of the hut changed to Hišimy̓awiƛ [Hi-SHIM-ya-wit].

Volunteers are making the magic happen!

As of this weekend, roofing metal and windows are almost finished being installed. The hut will be weather tight very soon!

We've been fortunate to have so many volunteers show up on the weekends. We've averaged about 18 people every weekend. I'm always amazed at how much we get done in two days. People are sure keen and motivated to get this hut up!

The roof trusses are nearly all in place. The large yellow cedar columns were donated by partnering First Nations, and will stand in front. The left hand one is already in place.
